Important Changes to Repeat Medication Requests

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO REPEAT MEDICATION REQUESTS

A new initiative will be starting across South Devon and Torbay area. This initiative is designed to improve safety and efficiency by reducing the amount of wasted medication which is dispensed to patients and not used.  To avoid this waste, your doctor would like to ensure that only what you actually need is ordered.  The Health Centre requires you the patient, or your carer to order your prescription yourself directly from the surgery.  Previously, a community pharmacy may have been doing this on your behalf.

When will these changes take place?

These changes will take place on the 1st September 2017.  You need to make sure that you do not rely on a third party to order your medication for you after this date.

This change is supported by South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group, who have responsibility for the majority of healthcare in this area.

What do you need to do?

We ask you to only order medicine when needed, check how many days’ medicine you have before ordering a new prescription.  Please aim to order when you have 5-7 days of medicines left.  This is important because your GP requires at least 2 working days to provide the prescription and your pharmacy will need 3-5 days after receiving the prescription to order and assemble it for collection.  This change to the way you order repeat prescriptions will be safer and more efficient.

The practice will no longer accept third party requests from 1 September 2017.  .  This includes all pharmacies, whether community pharmacies, online pharmacies or companies who order appliances for you (called appliance contractors).

How to order your repeat medication

You can order your repeat medication registering with SystmOne Online if you have internet access.  We recommend that this is the easiest and safest way for you to order your medication and we enclose an online registration so please can we encourage you to sign up for our online system. This will also allow you to:

  • View/request prescriptions
  • Manage appointments
  • Request access to a summary of your medical record
  • View your test results
  • Add/change contact details

In order for you to start using this system, we will need you to complete the enclosed form and bring it to the surgery along with at least one form of identification with you.  We will then give you a printout of your online access details for you to take away and access online.

Alternatively, repeat prescriptions can also be ordered at the surgery.  Just bring in your repeat slip and drop in to the prescription request box in the foyer or letterbox if we are closed.

Alternatively you can order by:

  • Phone 01803 874455
  • Post to the practice

How do I find out more?
